John is an artist based in Exeter, Devon UK.

John deploys a range of media. His work shows characteristic strength in line drawing and he is equally comfortable working in abstract and figuratively. His work is often many-layered.

John says:

“I spent a year at the Architectural Association in London then graduated B.Sc. from the University of Edinburgh and Dip. Arch. from the Glasgow School of Art.

In my working life as an architect, I travelled and worked a lot internationally- the UK, Africa, the Far East, Borneo and Australia – and gained insight into different cultures which informs my work.

I am particularly interested in the character of places and landscapes. This is sometimes related to the “genius loci”, the spirit of the place.

I find there are places I return to again and again.”
